Our Story
College Scholar Soccer Camp (CSSC) was founded by Ted Zingman, the head coach at Dickinson College. Having been a women’s college soccer coach for 15+ years, Coach Zingman has had the opportunity to attend many college prospect camps. He realized there were few camps that specifically catered to the high achieving students who know they want to attend highly competitive academic institutions.
In addition, many of the camps he attended in the past were solely geared towards evaluation, not development. Players were simply placed on randomized camp teams and told to scrimmage as college coaches watched. Coach Zingman feels the developmental portion of camp is crucial and directly impacts how well players perform at camp.
So, CSSC was born with the intention of replicating a college training and playing environment. If college coaches are going to evaluate and potentially recruit players for their programs, they need to see how players respond in training environments and evaluate if they take what they learn on the training pitch into game situations. Plus, players will better showcase themselves if they’ve had the opportunity to practice and build familiarity with their new camp coach and teammates before competing together.
That’s why at CSSC, players play with the same camp team and are trained by the same college coach for the duration of camp. (Note: All coaches will have the opportunity to watch/evaluate the players they don’t coach as well.) In college, you don’t rotate coaches every session. You learn from your coach and find a way to implement his/her in-game tactics. At CSSC, we focus on tactical development and game understanding/awareness. One of the goals of CSSC is to teach players how teams make tactical adjustments from game-to-game, which is a huge part of college soccer.
Add it all together, and CSSC is a unique means for high achieving student-athletes to be coached, developed, evaluated, and recruited to many of the best colleges and universities in the country. We hope you join us and take advantage of this amazing opportunity!
